ALLERGY TO WASP AND BEE STINGS

    Once we suffer a sting by wasp or bee, including flying insects in the order Hymenoptera, we show some painful rashes which tend to disappear day by day. If the bite of these insects has been done in a soft area of the skin, such as hands, face or neck the swelling will be more impressive, but applying some local cold, ammonia and some creamy antihistamine should be enough, these situations are normal and slightly worrying. But it happens that some people are allergic to the venom of bees or wasps, so a small amount of venom can create a severe reaction or even fatal in some cases. An incorrect diagnosis or treatment may endanger the lives of allergic people, so it is important to make these people aware of the danger, especially if they have already suffered severe reaction.

The wasp's nests elimination is done during night hours to avoid stings.

    The allergic people is easy to be noticed by the showy reactions they suffer, as following:

• Skin rash,  spread all over the body, sometimes swelling is observed in remote areas from the bite.

• In eyes or nose mucus can be seen conjunctivitis and rhinitis.

• In the intestine area abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

• Sometimes there is intense cough, breathing difficulty, whistle in the chest.

• Tachycardia and fall of blood pressure in the circulatory system.

• Or in the brain loss of consciousness, seizures and even comma.

   These reactions can come up in solitaire or several simultaneously, but when they are showed almost all together this is called anaphylactic shock, which is the most serious form of allergy than can produce death.
 

The most important thing when a sting is to reduce the inflammation and to remove the sting.

   The majority of the bee or wasp stings occur during the summer, coinciding with the increase of the activities in the open air, in swimming pools, sports, trips, etc. and with the aggressiveness of these insects that increases in July, August and September, specially in wasps. Due to the increase of temperature that provides great activity to these insects, controlling wasps or honeycombs near the home is fundamental for the allergic people.

   The risk of allergy to sting bee increases according to the number of stings, situation that turns the bee-keepers into a group with a high risk. The allergy can appear at any time, but the majority of bee-keepers present it during the first two years of their activity, being more frequent when having accumulated more than 50 stings.

 

 Honey producers are the most propitious people to suffer allergies to stings.
