WHY ARE THE DOMESTIC
FLIES SO ANNOYING?
The flies are present in the
daily activities of people, but they become most annoying and
uncomfortable at bedtime and mealtime. Why are we so
attractive to them? And why do they keep coming to our homes? These are questions that we
habitually ask ourselves. We could suggest that a major reason is that
the temperature, humidity and light conditions favour the development of the
flies inside a room, where the insects are also protected from natural predators and air
currents.

The flies are insects
attracted by the actinic light of the electric exterminators.
At
nightfall the flies go towards the light of our home, because they are photoactive
and light attracts them. This is why flying insects control systems
using ultraviolet
light are so effective. It is also necessary to indicate
that the feeding sources and their balanced diet are obtained from the food
inside the house.
The fly's oral system can only consume liquids. In order to
consume solids the fly has to regurgitate its own
saliva or use liquids which are closer. The human body is a source of
liquids and proteins that flies need in order to grow and to
reproduce themselves. There is no doubt their attraction towards us is
due to our
body odour, as well as to the body secretions, such as sweat, blood,
wounds, tears and so on.
It is necessary to remember that not only
they vomit on the food that it's about to be consumed, normally ours, but
they also defecate on the food to be consumed.

There are several types of
flies that visit our home: bluebottle, ordinary fly, vinegar fly.
Knowing that it operates as a pathogenics vector carrier and after
easily understanding flies' needs of nourishment and the habits during
their life, now we understand why are they always around us with no deterrent.
