CURIOSITIES ABOUT COCKROACHES.

   
   Cockroaches are some invertebrates that have been living on earth for more than 320 million years. They are the only insects that changed so little in so much time. They are omnivorous, although the dead animal material is probably their main food. In captivity they devour their dead brothers and sisters although they don't kill one another for eating.

Cockroaches are immunized against many of the insecticides normally used .
 

    These insects have been investigated for some time as a possible cause of allergies; they became very resistant to regular insecticides and their population density may be high in some places in the home where there is an abundance of food and high temperature. This made very difficult to eradicate them, and especially because they take refuge in places more difficult to access.

 
    Cockroaches produce some sweet-smelling secretions that alter the flavor of the food; the most suitable thing to do in order to minimize the effects that cockroaches produce is to protect the food and the kitchen utensils, washing them immediately after using to avoid leaving leftovers to their reach and to eliminate all the feeding sources for the cockroaches inside the home.

An exhaustive cleaning will be a good beginning to eradicate the cockroaches plague.

    They are the main disease transmitters to humans through food and cooking utensils contamination, such as  gastroenteritis. The cockroaches excrements are one of the major immediate causes of asthma, especially in humid areas and in neighborhoods of urban centers. Their excrements and some parts of their body contain allergens that cause severe nettlerash, sneezing or tearing.

    The fight against them is not easy at all because of their ability to travel fast, they can escape at the smallest change in the air; they've got some pressure sensitive hairs that warn of the danger of cockroaches and allow them to respond in 54 thousandths of a second. They hide in cracks and corners and they move along the drains from one building to another. They've got sensitive pores which help them learning to recognize poisons. This, together with the resistance they have been generating make very difficult their elimination. In case of trouble they can live up to 3 months with only drinking water and up to a month without eating anything at all.

    To fight against cockroaches in your home is very important to clean every leftover, to deposit garbage in closed bags and not keeping them locked inside the home, not to accumulate newspapers, boxes or papers. Do not leave pet food containers or water within reach of these insects, cover drains with filters through which they cannot move, seal the cracks of the wall and check that doors and windows close well.

Sealing the cracks and pipes helps cockroaches elimination.
