WASPS: REPELLENTS AND
ELIMINATION METHODS.
The wasps living in
colonies are called social wasps; there are males, females and sterile
workers. There are others that live alone, they are called the
solitary wasps - among them there are no workers and they construct
individual nests. The social wasps can be found around the flowers, plants, close to water sources
(swimming pools, wells etc.)
and mostly when they find a food source (barbecues, outside meals etc.). The wasps
feel a strong attraction
towards the noise of engines or bombs generating electricity.
Normally they are located in cracks of walls, pierced trees or inside the false
ceilings of the house.

Wasps usually make their beehive in tree hollows
or in the roofs of the houses.
It is necessary to remember that the wasps,
unlike the bees, do not die on stinging so that we can get
several stings in a row. Due to the poison they
inject while stinging these insects produce blisters of approximately 10 mm.
of diameter and burning pain. There is also an effect on the rebound:
the infection of these blisters due to the sticked sting. People with
allergy to wasp sting must take special care
for the possible health problems that they bring about, even death. The most serious effects are when the
wasp stings along the neck, head and face. The seriousness of the
situation depends on the
number of stings, age and previous exposure to them. People allergic to
wasp and bee sting are advised to avoid unnecessary risks, wearing long
sleeved clothes, carying with them injectable adrenalin, aerosol anti-inflammatory
medicine and tweezers to take out the sting.
The use of outside wasps traps is a very
effective killing method; it is about introducing a powerful attractive
liquid in a container, producing a powerful liquid bait for these insects;
it has a hole through which the wasps enter looking for the
bait and then they fall into the liquid and drown. We should place this
near us to reduce the
risk of stings or in places where they are generally met.

Outside traps
are a strong attractive for the wasps, where they die drowned.
We can use wasps repellents of chemical composition
or natural; this is a way to keep them away but not to kill them. These
active substances contained in repellents are unpleasant for the wasps
which in a minimum contact with them move away. These substances can be found in creams and
lotions for skin use as well as in liquids or sprays for the nuisance
of these insects. There are some specific
products that are sprayed on barbecues, swimming pools edges or plants, but it
must be emphasized that they are usually chemical actives, such as permetrina
or pyrethrin, which may be a danger to smaller people.
