DISEASES TRANSMITTED BY RATS AND MICE.

      Diseases transmitted by rat bite:

•                 Haverhill Fever - a fever transmitted by the rat bite; it is caused by Streptobacillus moniliformis. Most of the cases of this disease were seen in Australia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America. It shows fever, shivers, headache, muscular pain in a period of 10 days after the contact, followed by a three days period in which a vague erruption appears, mainly in the extremities. The great joints can swell up, become red and painful. If this disease is not cured, severe complications in the heart valves may appear.

•                                     Sudoku - a disease caused by Spirillum minus; it is common in Asia, particularly in Japan. With this fever provoked by a rat bite, a special skin rash, characterized by red or purple plates; the bite place can reactivate itself and open again. With this disease one can rarely notice problems in the joints.

•                The Rabies  - humans are exposed to this virus by infected rats and mice bites. Rabies is an acute viral infection of the central nervous system and it is transmitted by infected secretions, usually saliva. One goes through two stages: the first lasts from one to four days and shows fever, vomits, cough, muscular pain, headache and cramps, muscular groups contractions and lack of appetite. During the encephalic stage or stage two the motor activity is excessive, excitation, agitation, confusion and delirium with aggressive hallucinations. It can also occur muscular spasms, meningitis, convulsions and face paralyses.
