VOLES PLAGUE ELIMINATION.
In times of heavy rains, voles find more food
and it is more easy for them to excavate galleries since the subsoil is
softer; this creates a proliferation of voles, being detected an increase in the population
up to 1500 voles hectare.

It is easier for voles to excavate in
humid soil, and not watery or stepped on soil.
Nature provides voles with their enemies in order to
help to eliminate them, such as the weasel, fox, badger, some snakes and
night prey birds that by entering the hole or lying in wait follow the natural order
so that voles do not turn into an invasion. The winter cold and frost,
too help extermination.

The nocturnal birds of prey are some of the
natural allies in controlling voles.
Within the methods to exterminate or frighten
away a plague of voles, the ones who most impact are the poisonous ones because voles
are the food to many small and medium-sized carnivorous animals species, such as the owls and other night prey birds. Given the
consequences to the environment, we should think before using toxic
products, as they may change it quite badly.
Another method is the ultrasound keeping away
devices which can keep away quite a high percentage of voles, but those born and raised in that
area remain there,
which are the most abundant. It should be said that this method makes
vole populaton wander about the limits of the territory, without being
exterminated. Another way of scaring the voles, when talking about small
farms and as long as the plague is not very extended, is using repellent
plants such as the jimson weed, belladonna, castor-oil plant and rue, among
others. They are toxic plants due to the atropine contained in the root.
Using this method is not enough when the vole concentration is high.

The jomson weed is a repellent plant to moles and mice.
There are some metal traps to capture them alive and then
to take them to natural
areas near rivers where they do not damage anything. Another way to trap
voles is placing small plastic containers with water
near the holes or in their way, because voles do not know how to climb or
jump, when they fall into the container they drown. However this
method is to be used in small controlled areas, like gardens, parks, etc.

The traps are to be placed
near zones where the moles are accustomed to pass by.
People can also use instantaneous bait traps that help to
exterminate the rodents. The vole bait traps with permanent baits
are made of anticoagulants, which are less harmful to humans, but we must
be extremely careful when using them, follow the instructions, not act
by ourselves and submit to periodic inspections by the authorities.
