FIELD MOUSE AND CITY RAT Rats are divided into two groups: the grey rat or of sewage system and the black or rustic, colloquially known as mouse. The grey rats live in populations, with a great organization in their society; there is a dominant male which is frequently changed due to the internal fights. They are rodents with a great ability in water and are more aggressive than the field rats, causing serious damage in grain warehouses.
The black rat moved away the grey rat and turned into an important plague .These rats are omnivorous, they feed on insects, waste, leftovers, vegetables, animal waste or on their own corpses. Every day they eat 10% of their weight and can eat as diverse food as paper, rubber, lead, wood, plastic. This is why they are so harmful with the electrical cables and pipes. The black rats live in the field, are good climbers and they feed on vegetables, the cereal grains and seeds are what they like most; they move to the food source and then they carry it to their nest. Nowadays it is observed a great movement of the black rats, because they are smaller and less aggressive than the grey rats.
The grey rat is more aggressive than the black rat. Recent information from different parts of the world indicate that rats and mice are quickly increasing their number; there are many cities which suffer invasions, like for example the city of Birmingham, the second greatest one of England, where during the last years people suffer rat plagues. Unfortunately, there is no Hamelin pipe and no Hamelin Pied Piper so humans with their intelligence should be looking for methods to eradicate these plagues. In conclusion, rats are tremendously detrimental for humans for the damage and diseases transmitted and unfortunately there it is not perceived a very considerable effort to make the population aware of the risks of having rats around us.
